What is a diamond grading report?

A diamond grading report is a document outlining the characteristics of a diamond that determine its quality and (partly) its value.

Diamond grading reports should be carried out by independent diamond grading laboratories that are staffed by highly-trained professionals, and are equipped with all of the necessary gemological equipment.

A diamond grading report is a valuable document that will help identify your diamond in case of loss or damage.

Some things to note:

  • Diamond grading reports are not valuations.
  • Although Diamond Grading Reports are also commonly referred to as Diamond Certificates, they technically should not be called "Diamond Certificates" because diamond grading laboratories do not actually "certify" diamonds.

Laser Inscription

Laser inscriptions provide a high level of security in case of loss or theft. A number of laboratories now incorporate laser inscription services with their reports.

Laser inscriptions are located on the diamond's girdle and can include the diamond report number, message or company logo.
